Grading System & Academic Structure

At Kalaivanar N.S.K. Polytechnic College (KNSKPT), we follow a structured academic system combined with a transparent and performance-based grading method as prescribed by the Directorate of Technical Education (DOTE), Tamil Nadu. Our academic design ensures consistent learning, effective evaluation, and overall development of students in line with industry expectations.

🏫 Academic Structure

πŸŽ“ Grading System

KNSKPT adopts the Relative Grading System to evaluate student performance. Each subject is assessed through a combination of theory, practicals, internal assessments, and external exams. The final performance is reflected in the form of letter grades and corresponding grade points.

Letter Grades and Grade Points

Grade Grade Point Percentage of Marks Meaning
O 10 91 – 100 Outstanding
A+ 9 81 – 90 Excellent
A 8 71 – 80 Very Good
B+ 7 61 – 70 Good
B 6 51 – 60 Average
C 5 40 – 50 Satisfactory
RA 0 Below 40 Re-Appear (Failed)
SA 0 β€” Shortage of Attendance
W 0 β€” Withdrawn from Course

Note: Students scoring below 40% are considered to have failed in that subject and must reappear for the examination.

πŸ“Œ Key Academic Policies

  • Internal Assessment Marks: Each subject includes internal assessments such as tests, assignments, and attendance-based marks.
  • Practical Subjects: Lab performance, viva-voce, and records are considered for internal evaluation.
  • Re-Examinations: Students with β€˜RA’ (Re-Appearance) must clear arrears to be eligible for final certification.
  • Overall Grade Point Average (OGPA): Final diploma is awarded based on the cumulative grade point average across all semesters.

At KNSKPT, we ensure that the academic and grading system is not just a measure of performance, but a tool for consistent growth, skill development, and career preparation.
